Art On Romney Marsh. All Saints Church, Lydd. 2003

Bedsit Technicians were invited to make a site specific installation for the duration of Art On Romney Marsh, which also featured other artists showing work in churches across the region, as well as an education and lecture programme. The event was supported by The Arts Council of England and Coastal Currents

The project for All Saints Church created a place for reflection as an individual within the contemplative environment of the church. A sanctuary within a sanctuary, and one which enables the individual to become aware of the function of a contemplative space with reference to what occurs outside of it.

The project was entitled Cell and is a hybrid between a side chapel and a crime investigation scene.

Projecting out from the wall of the old church, the temporary structure made from timber and plastic sheeting was entered into by the viewer in order to view a video work which reflected responses of living in the urban environment and material belief structures.
