Bedsit Technicians is a video and installation project exploring the anxiety of urban isolation and obsessional behaviour.
The installation consists of seven 'White Paintings' by David Smith. These are constructed by building up layer upon layer of white emulsion paint in order to create an object which has the surface resembling flock wallpaper, each design meticulously hand drawn and engineered hour after tedious hour.
The other element of the installation are a number of video sequences by Carl Fleischer with titles such as 'Psycho', 'Manual Sequence' and 'Upwardly Mobile'. The video sequences are animated from pages of consumer decorating manuals and DIY brochures
These are presented appropriately on retro TV sets placed on chipboard reproductions of household electronic entertainment cupboards available from cheap high street outlets and catalogues.
